MISSION
Place Name Dude's mission is to research, share, and celebrate the historical and cultural significance of Adirondack Mountain toponyms. The goal to historically decode 1,000 toponyms began during March 2024 and was completed during June that year. The 1,000 entries total 150,000 words, while the features themselves spread across almost all of the range's 92 towns. Findings are presented within publications and the Adirondack Onomastic Experience (AOE) interactive map. Place Name Dude will continue to add historic layers to AOE to ensure this is a perpetual project.
